How to use a temporary email address with Reddit
Reddit can require an email address for account verification, security notices, and account recovery. If you are trying Reddit for the first time or want to keep a one-off signup separate from your primary inbox, a temporary email address can be a useful privacy boundary.
Use this approach only for lawful, ordinary use of Reddit and in line with its rules. A temporary inbox is not a way to evade bans, automate signups, create deceptive identities, or run multiple accounts where Reddit does not allow them.
When a temporary address makes sense
A temporary address is most useful when you are:
- testing the Reddit experience before deciding whether to keep an account;
- joining a short-lived community, event, or discussion;
- keeping promotional or product emails separate from your personal inbox; or
- verifying an address for a non-critical account you do not plan to maintain.
For an account you expect to keep, use an email address you control for the long term. You may need it for password resets, security alerts, and account recovery.
Create a temporary inbox first
- Open Temporam and create a new temporary email address.
- Keep the Temporam inbox open in another browser tab.
- Copy the address exactly as shown.
Do this before starting the Reddit signup, so the verification message has somewhere ready to arrive.
Sign up on Reddit
- Go to Reddit and choose Sign Up.
- Enter the temporary address when Reddit requests an email address.
- Complete the normal signup steps, including choosing a username and password.
- Follow any on-screen verification instructions.
Use a strong, unique password. Even a short-lived account should not reuse the password of your primary email, banking, work, or social accounts.
Verify the address in Temporam
After Reddit sends the verification email, return to the Temporam inbox. Open the message and use the verification link or code supplied by Reddit. If it does not appear immediately, wait briefly and refresh the inbox.
Only trust messages that clearly come from Reddit. Do not enter your Reddit password on pages reached through suspicious emails or unfamiliar domains.
Keep the account safe
Think of a temporary inbox as a limited-use address, not permanent account storage. Before relying on the account, consider these questions:
- Will you need to reset the password later?
- Do you want to receive Reddit security notifications?
- Are you building a profile, moderation role, or subscription that matters to you?
If the answer is yes, update the account to an email address you intend to retain and make sure your recovery details remain current.
A simple privacy habit
Using a separate address for exploratory signups helps reduce unnecessary messages in your main inbox and limits how widely your primary address is shared. Keep important, long-term accounts on a durable email address; use a temporary address for the short-lived and low-risk cases where it is appropriate.
